Congratuations! Your braces are ready to be removed and your smile looks amazing! Now let’s talk about the next and final step of treatment: retention. After your braces are taken off or you have completed your treatment with Invisalign® or Invisalign Teen®, our orthodontist will take final records and impressions of your teeth to make your retainers.

Retainers are very important as they hold the teeth in their new positions and “retain” your new, fabulous smile! The type of retainer will vary depending on your needs and preferences. Dr. Blais and our staff in Scarsdale, NY will gladly show you what the different types of retainers look like and explain their advantages in order to make the right choice for you.

“Active” retainers can also be used in certain instances to treat minor orthodontic problems such as minor crowding. Ask Dr. Blais or our staff at any time about this option, especially if you’ve experienced minor tooth relapse from not wearing your retainer! This option is great for children and adults alike.

Finally, Dr. Blais will check to see if your wisdom teeth have developed. If any wisdom teeth are starting to come in, she may recommend a consult with an oral surgeon about having them removed if their position is not optimal.

We encourage you to contact Blais Orthodontics today to learn more and to schedule your next visit.
